Writing is hard... but finishing is even harder...

Writing is hard. But harder than writing is wrapping up and  actually finishing a story. I seem to have a lot of ideas, a lot of interesting set ups. But starting with that set up, and coming up with a full length story with a sensible plot is harder. That's one of the reasons why many of my stories are unfinished.

Having said that, there's the regular road blocks: time, motivation, etc... However at the end of the day I think I write for myself more than anyone else, and hopefully I'll be able to keep doing this. This is specially important given that the community for this particular "niche" is unfortunately not very active.

Should I keep starting stories even if they might never be finished?
Should I focus on creating a fully fledged "world" and just writing snippets in that "world"? (The world from "Deep Freeze" comes to mind)

Enough ranting for today... take care every one!

  1. Hi, first of all I want to agree with your comments, regarding the problem "to write" and/or complete a story. I am in the same conflict, as it never seems the right point to close a story - and at the same time, new ideas wait to "consume" all my free "writing time". But, sometime an older story comes back on my screen, and I start to continue some chapters, OR I decide to start with something new, even if it is just the "teaser" to freeze the idea.
So, my answer would be, do as you like it, otherwise your conflict between using your free time for a finish or a new idea will at the end prevent either the one OR the other.
I am also aware of the fact, that feedback from readers is a rare good. Most are slient readers, and it is important to realize, that it is the writers hobby and nothing more.
IF you share your outcome with the comunity, I arealy appreciate it and your ideas are worth to get feedback! From my point of view it is easier to keep ideas seperated, as ONE overall idea might "kill" new ones - even in case they stay unfinished. BR Mr.G.

  2. I have no idea about writing, but I would think writing whatever comes to mind would be better for creativity - rather than snuffing out ideas just because it doesn't fit in a "world".

Either, keep up the great work! You're right, this is a niche that isn't very active, though I'm not sure why!

  3. Hi again, I just wonder, if your newest ideas, (Lady of Chatwick Manors and the Dress-Modell with "special duties") also "died" because of missing ideas to contiue? I believe that both stories have still potentials and it would be great to read more about them. So don´t think about how to finish or what is best or how big is the "comunity for this kind of stories", just let as share your ideas, I believe you still have a lot of them ;-)
    Regards, Mr.G.

  4. Your stories are really fantastic.
I can't speak much English, unlike Mr.George, that's why I didn't write comments until now. But please continue your stories, they're anwesome :)
